It came from outer space,,,,well, Israel really. UPDATE

It’s gizmo day again here at ‘Chez Barnacle.
And the gizmo of the day is a RingFlash from DIY Lighting.

WTF is a ringflash you ask? Howz about a bit of history.
It was invented in ’52 originally for dental work. Remember those circular lights they shine in your face?
This type of lighting has found it’s way into photography mostly in the macro close-up mode. The circular light leaves no shadows and is a great way to light bugs and shit.
It can also bring a new look to people portraits, as I hope to show you soon.
You can buy this light for anywhere from 200 smackers on up.
Or,,,, you can go to DIY-Lighting-kits.com and get one of their do-it-yourself kits for 24 bucks.
Since I just splashed out for a new camera, I went for the diy version.
Side note: YES!! The eagle has landed, my new camera has arrived at my mom’s house and is safely sitting in the pile of booty in my old bedroom waiting for me to come visit!
Am I excited? No. it goes beyond that.
Anyway, the package showed yesterday from Israel. I had it assembled before I could finish one beer. That’s how easy it was.
You stick your flash in the bottom and it bounces around and comes out thru the circle.
It’s made from cardboard and vinyl/plastic stuff, kinda like the material you would find in a school notebook.
I would not recommend stepping on it but with basic caution it should last quite a while.
I will be playing with it soon to see what it’s all about but here you get an idea.

UPDATE: found a schmuck, model.

It is a known fact that men are practical, hardheaded realists, in contrast to women, who are romantic dreamers and actually believe that estrogenic skin cream must do something or they couldn't charge sixteen dollars for that little tiny jar.
