Ok, I admit it.
I have been known to visit a tavern every once in a great
while.
And over my 40 years of doing so, I have had the pleasure of
enjoying some very fine drinking establishments.
From the dives around Denver, to some shady waterfront holes
along the piers of southeast Asia, to present day Central America. I have managed to drink beer in 17 different countries!
Back in I believe ’99, the beer joint I have spent the most
time in was constructed.
Yep, I’m talkin bout Mango’s.
Throughout its history there have been some high points and
some low periods.
The highs were very high and the lows were just as low.
But I don’t think it has ever been as popular as it is now.
The proprietor, Frank, is the current of a long line of lease-ers
and he has made this place a serious hit!
He NEVER runs out of beer!
There was once during a low spot years ago I had to go back
home and bring a case back with me if I wanted to drink beer at Mango’s!
And if you have to wait more than 30 seconds for your next
cold one, check and see if Frank keeled over and died because that’s what it
will take.
But, the times they are a changing.
Now days, when the place is packed, I don’t know 75% of the
people in there?
Who the hell are these people?
My only gripe, and it’s a small one, is the TV.
I hate TV’s in a bar. I would rather listen to cd’s or an
ipod thankyouverymuch.
But a lot of folks watch sports in there and that’s good for
business.
So lets all hope for a long, steady run with Frank at the
helm of an old friend, Mango’s!
"You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and
an airline it helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear
weapons, but at the very least you need a beer."

We haven't been there since the "Last Tango at Mango's".
By the way, we ran into Steve & Anne-Marie at Yoli's on Friday.

Without a doubt Mango's was my favorite place to eat/drink in Belize. The food and service were fantastic, far beyond my expectations. You couldn't ask for a nicer host in Frank.
The last time I was there people from 4 different countries were sitting at the bar and we were all having a great time.
Here's hoping Frank has a long and profitable run!
yup. I love that place. It's even way more fun than it was back in the Roeul (sp?) days. WAY more FUn! Last night I was there we had the Soul Train line going on the "dance floor" (space between where the entertainment sets up and the bar). So fun! Even Egbert danced!Worth it even if I had goma the next day.
